Crime Stoppers
Crime Stoppers is a community-based, not-for-profit organisation that promotes crime reduction and assists the police in identifying and apprehending criminals.
Since it began in Western Australia in 1995, Crime Stoppers has been a resounding success. It has received 200,000 telephone calls from the public, which have been directly responsible for solving 10% of all crimes attended to by the WA Police Service.
The benefits for all concerned are wide-ranging and it is our community that ultimately reaps the rewards.
Crime Stoppers is an internationally recognised programme operating in the USA, England, France, Germany, Canada and right across Australia. There are now more than 1,106 Crime Stoppers' Units worldwide. The original concept was conceived by a police officer in Albuquerque, New Mexico in 1976.
RAC Insurance is proud to be a major sponsor of the Crime Stoppers programme. As Western Australia's largest general insurer, RAC is keen to play its part in helping reduce the incidence of crime and the resulting financial and emotional cost to our communities.
Callers to the Crime Stoppers hotline can remain anonymous. They come from all walks of life and have a variety of reasons for calling, including good citizenship.
If an arrest follows, a reward of up to $1,000 may be paid.
The Crime Stoppers number is 1800 333 000.
