Australia's best cars cross the line
24 November 2007
The best new cars on the market are jostling for pole position in Australia's premier car awards.
Judging has closed for the 2007 Australia's Best Cars Awards (ABC) and the competition has been fierce in the 12 hotly contested categories.
The Awards - now in their seventh year - have become Australia's benchmark for consumers looking to purchase a new car.
The RAC's David Moir said the awards had grown over time to truly reflect the wants, needs and expectations of new car buyers.
"The beauty of the Australia's Best Cars Awards program is its strong consumer focus, and its ability to provide new car buyers with the full scoring table on 250-plus vehicles," said Mr Moir.
"But unlike other awards programs, the ABC assessment also includes input from actual buyers on what areas they believe are important, such as safety, fuel economy, and practicality," he said.
With the backing of all the Australian motoring clubs, the ABC Awards enables consumers to make a highly informed purchasing decision.
"The scoring system has been shaped to reflect the expectations of the car-buying public, and rates vehicles on all-round ability in three broad areas; value for money, design and function and on-road ability.
"The hundreds of contenders have been put through their paces over recent months, with the field narrowing to 36 finalists spread over 12 categories - with the winners to be announced in early December," Mr Moir said.
The full scoring results of all the cars tested will be announced on 5 December and will be available in the 2007 Australia's Best Cars magazine at your nearest RAC Member Service Centre and all good newsagents.
