Counterfeit international driving permits
07 December 2007
The RAC would like to make the public aware of the circulation of Counterfeit International Driving Permits (IDPs).
IDPs are being offered for sale on the internet, usually at inflated prices. It is a criminal offence to issue, handle or be in possession of an International Driving Permit issued in Australia, other than the authorised legal document.
It is important that members of the public are aware that the sole authorised issuing agent for the Australian Government, in accordance with the United Nations Convention on International Road Traffic of 19 September 1949, is the Australian Automobile Association (AAA) and sold through the State & Territory Motoring Clubs inlcuding the RAC WA.
Please note: Forged IDPs are illegal and can get the holder into a great deal of difficulty with traffic authorities in various countries.
