Metropolitan traffic hot spots identified

The intersection of Beaufort Street and Walcott Street in Mount Lawley has been identified as Perth's worst traffic hot spot in a Red Spots survey conducted by the RAC in partnership with the Community Newspaper Group and Channel 7.
Nearly 2,500 people nominated parts of the road network that cause congestion and create unsafe driving conditions resulting in frustration and annoyance for road users including pedestrians, cyclists and motorists.
Other major trouble spots around Perth included the junction of Wanneroo Road and Hester Avenue in Clarkson, the Kewdale Road, Horrie Miller Drive, Tonkin Highway intersection in Kewdale and the Clayton Street, Robinson Road and Roe Highway intersection in Bellevue.
"There's been a good response to our Red Spots campaign with a record number of people nominating areas that cause congestion but this is only the first step in tacking these traffic problems," said RAC Executive Manager Member Advocacy David Moir.
The RAC will work with a traffic engineering expert to investigate the top 24 nominated Red Spots over the coming weeks and the findings will be presented to the relevant road authorities.
"By working together with local councils and main roads we can make lasting improvements to these travel hot spots by cutting travel times for road users and reducing the number of associated crashes and incidents at these sites," said Mr Moir.
All the information gathered through the Red Spots campaign will be sent to the road authorities so they can see the problems facing motorists, pedestrians and cyclists in the Perth metropolitan area today.
